What is Phishing?

Phishing is sending emails (spam) to a large number of users with the intention of collecting personally identifiable information such as credit card details, social security numbers etc. The emails are masked as to appear from a legitimate enterprise such as Banks, Brokerage firms, Financial Institutions etc. and prompt the user to click on an hyperlink (provided in the email). The hyperlink renders a fake page that that looks similar to the web page of a legitimate company and collects sensitive information from the user such as their Credit Card numbers, Social Security numbers etc.
